Megerdich Mikayelian’s musical journey began at the Parsegh Ganatchian College of Music, where, in 1999, he made history as the college’s first guitar graduate after completing the Grade 10 programme. His passion for music led him to the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree. Seeking to refine his artistry even further, he pursued graduate studies at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, achieving a Master’s degree in Classical Guitar.
In 2022, Megerdich Mikayelian was honored and assigned by the World Guitar Organisation as its Official Ambassador in Armenia and Lebanon, under the auspices of UNESCO.
Mikayelian was the winner of the Gold Medal at the Guitar Olympiad in Volos, Greece, in August, 2023, under the auspices of UNESCO.
His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of Cilicia honored Megerdich Mikayelian with the highest award St. Mesrop Mashdots Insignia, on February 15, 2024 at the Catholicosate of Cilicia, Antelias.
As a soloist, Megerdich Mikayelian has performed in Sweden, the United States, Canada, (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Cambridge) Lebanon, Armenia, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Greece.
Currently, guitar professor at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music, also the artistic director of the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory Guitar Ensemble as well as Coordinator of the Guitar Ensemble.
He is the Coordinator of the Classical Guitar division at Parsegh Ganatchian College of Music. Megerdich Mikayelian is the founder, artistic director and conductor of the Hamazkayin Guitar Ensemble and the Davigh Orchestra at the Parsegh Ganatchian College of Music. In 2019, Mikayelian also founded the Ararad Quintet.
He has served as a jury member in various guitar competitions in Armenia and Europe, and has given numerous masterclasses in the United States, Canada, Armenia, and Europe.
For his musical achievements, Megerdich Mikayelian has received the
following honors:
Yorgos Foudoulis Medal Award, presented by the International Award Committee, Greece (2025);
Medal and Diploma from the World Guitar Organization, Greece (2025);
An Award of Appreciation from the House of Commons of Canada (2011);
A Shield of Appreciation from the Armenian Evangelical College (2008);
Certificates of Appreciation from the School of Fine Arts, Lebanese University (2006 and 2007);
An Appreciation Award from the Hamazkayin Cultural Society, following his students’ first-place victory in a guitar competition in Armenia;
A Certificate of Appreciation from the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music.
Mikayelian won the first prize at the International Guitar competition in Yerevan, Armenia, on April 13, 2019.
Under Mikayelian’s artistic direction and conductorship, the Guitar Ensemble of Parsegh Ganatchian College won the first prize in a TV show in 2013.
Megerdich Mikayelian’s arrangements and accomplishments have been featured in the Armenian and Lebanese press, as well as in international publications. For example, “Gitarr och Luta”, a renowned Swedish classical guitar magazine, published his transcription and arrangement of the song “Oror” for classical guitar, accompanied by an article detailing his work and background. Additionally, the prestigious “Gendai Guitar Magazine” in Japan featured articles about Mikayelian and his contributions to Armenian music in their June and December 2022 issues.
Mikayelian is the author of arrangements for classical guitar book “Armenian Liturgy and Armenian Songs for Guitar”, published by Armenian Catholicossate of Cilicia, in 2002.
